I’ve been busy this last month. I am in a new show and sale at Visual Voice Gallery in Truro, NS. My work is in a group show - the Christmas Show and Sale. It is a varied sale and well displayed. The curator of the exhibit did a wonderful job! All the work is available in the Gallery’s online exhibit as well. https://visual-voice.ca/exhibit/

I have been hooking more on my Parker’s Cove fishing shacks series. Only 11 more small pieces to go! I managed to hem all the ones I have hemmed, and label them. Now to sew on the rope edges. Oh! And the hanging sleeves.

I have been busy creating content for my Ko-fi site - jean ottosen studios.
In my Beginner Tier I’m running a series on introducing the materials and equipment of rug hooking. To date I’ve covered backings and fibres. Coming up are frames, hooks and cutters. This tier is $10CAD/month.
In the Intermediate Tier I am running a series on record keeping for rug hookers. There have been posts on why do it, how to do it, what to include and working in series. Coming up is one on alternative approaches and a post or video (haven’t decided yet) on how I actually keep records. The Intermediate Tier is $12CAD/month.
In the Advanced Tier I am focusing on rug hookers who want to become professional artists. My current series is on documentation involved. To date I have covered resumés and CVs. Coming up will be Artist Bios, Artist Statements, Gallery Representation and Gallery Contacts. The Advanced Tier is $15CAD/month.
The contents of each tier are available to the ones above it so if you become a member of the Advanced Tier, you have access to all blog posts and videos on the site. If you buy the Intermediate Tier, you have access to it and the Beginner Tier. Members of the Beginner Tier only have access to it.
My Ko-fi site also features videos - long and short - depending which tier you’re in. I make videos of a variety of my creative activities. I not only rug hook, but also quilt, embroider, spin, sew, nature journal, and do other creative activities. Right now I have some videos showcasing quilting and finishing rugs in my Beginner Tier; quilting, piecing and nature journaling in my Intermediate Tier; and dyeing fibre in my Advanced Tier.

Aside from the above, I now take part in up to five virtual hook-ins a week and one in-person. I am selling supplies through those, as well as online.
In October I went with a hooking buddy to the annual Memorial Hook-in in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. It was great fun meeting people from all over the area. Over 75 women and men enjoying a day of hooking. I accomplished a lot…and spent money at the vendors.

Well, that’s it for now. If you have been, thanks for reading! Have a great month!
